SPORTING stars can now join forces with talented language students as Lymm High School celebrates it second specialist award.
The Oughtrington Lane school has been a spcecilist language college for the past decade and has now added sports to its list.
And on Wednesday, they held a special day of celebration.
The morning saw the school become a global playing field with students taking part in sporting activities linked to European languages.
In the afternoon, high performing students in languages and sport took part in a question and answer session.
Carolyn Bygraves, from the school, said: "Joining us in our celebration were guests from the sporting world and business people from local industry who deal with foreign markets.
"It has been another memorable year for Lymm High School on the sporting front.
"Our under 15s won the Daily Mail National Cup for Rugby in March and our under 19s are in the National Final for Basketball in May. Last year, our 1st XV Rugby won the Daily Mail Vase Cup - the only non-selective school ever to have achieved this.
"This is an exciting opportunity for languages and sport to drive the school to even higher standards in the future."
In languages Amy Booth, Hannah Caldwell and Brendan Rigby (three outstanding linguists in the sixth form) were joined by some of the aspiring linguists from the lower years.
Amy has been offered a place to study modern foreign languages at Clare College, Cambridge, and Hannah has a place at Magdalene College, Oxford to study French and history.
Brendan is going to study Spanish or German and Mathematics at either Manchester or Sheffield.
Meanwhile, Olivia Oakes, who rows for Great Britain and Charlotte Newell, a tennis player for Great Britian, chatted to Lymm High's newest star David Strettle.
Strettle made his debut for England in rugby union's Six Nations earlier this year.
