A CAMPAIGN to improve safety for horse riders in Lymm is gaining momentum.
And now the Lymm Equestrian Group is looking for more volunteers to help to carry out much needed research on where riders can safely ride in the village and its surrounds.
The group launched the Action for Safe Passage campaign two years ago in a bid to crack down on the number of danger spots for horse riders and improve the comfort of riders.
Claire Royle, from the group, said it was important to get a list and maps published for riders to use - especially given the amount of land now used to build homes in the village.
She said: "There seems to be no argument to the increased volume and size of traffic in our once little village.
"Those open spaces once available to ride on have since been replaced by three-storey housing estates."
The group has already gained more off-road access and is in the process of setting up the first toll ride in Lymm for group members.
Claire added: "This looks like the way forward for off road riding and may assist landowners in making increased revenue from the use of Government controlled land within their land."
The group is continuing a campaign to find appropriate surfaces for paths around Lymm Dam while they also want to take on a section of Spud Wood although the Woodland Trust is currently denying them rights.
Volunteers who help with research will become members and receive routes and maps. Call 753308 or 755494.
