I'm off work and on Tuesday I had my first 'leisure' ride into Warrington to sort out a few errands.
With a bit more time to think and relax, a few things struck me.
Broken glass - It's not just the amount of broken glass on Sankey cycleway into the town centre that is extremely dangerous and annoying.
It's the fact that it never appears to be cleaned up.
The same patches of shattered shards stay there for day after day and week after week.
I can only assume they are just left until enough people have walked and cyled over them until they just blend into the backgrond level of glass.
I'm seriously considering writing a Letter of Complaint to the council.
Bicycle pumps - I took my bike back to Ron Spencer in Orford for the quick check they give you as part of the buying process.
I discovered my tyres were only at 20psi when they should be at 65 - 85 psi.
My feeble pumping efforts to use a mini-pump are clearly not working.
The shop guy recommended one of the Joe Blow pumps they use in the workshop for around £30, and I'll get one next week.
Cycle bays - I used a town centre cycle bay for the first time and they shape was a pain.
My choice was the bay outside Yates on Buttermarket Street but the sloping design made it hard to lock the front wheel and frame together and keep the bike upright at the same time.
Not sure if it's just my incompotence, but they look like a triumph of style over form to me.
Cycleways - I'm starting to see more and more why a lot of cyclists don't like them. They are too intermittent to be helpful a lot of the time, and make you make extra junction manouveres, which is dangerous.
Case in point - the short cycleway on Midland Way as you head towards Crosfields roundabout, shortly after the junction with Froghall Lane.
It comes and goes after 20 yards, then when you get to the roundabout it reappears on the otherside of the road.
Headwinds - I'm getting seriously bored by headwinds, every day, as I cycle home.
It always seems to blow inland so I get it full in the face as I cycle on the flat and exposed roads through Sankey, Penketh and Cuerdley.
Not sure who I could write a letter of complaint to about this, though.
God, perhaps?
