THE town's first Asian deputy mayor has set out his vision to help promote greater integration in communities across the borough.
Cllr Faisal Rashid (LAB - Whittle Hall) received a majority vote to be elected into the role at last Thursday's annual council meeting.
Mayor Cllr Geoff Settle spoke of the 'opportunity' for Warrington to increase its diversity and Cllr Rashid has tipped the pair to assist in bringing about greater cohesion.
"Me and my wife Aleeza, the deputy mayoress, would like to thank every member of the council who has supported us," he said.
"We have no words to express our feelings and it means a lot to us. We can assure you that we will keep Warrington and the residents at the heart of every civic engagement we are invited to.
"I want to support people of all generations in the town.
"It is important that we do have more integrated communities - that is something which I will be promoting."
The 42-year-old will also focus his efforts on improving the employment landscape for residents, as well as helping to provide fairer opportunities for youngsters.
"I want there to be economic development in the town and will be co-operating with the people to bring about more jobs, as well as looking at child poverty" he added.
"I also support local charities and will continue doing that."
