WORK to create a community play area is set to begin in May.
The contractors have said that work will take three weeks after they start on May 14 provided there are no weather delays, Cinnamon Brow Residents Association (CIMBRA) has confirmed.
The play area, which is just off Rowland Close, Cinnamon Brow, will be open as soon as work is complete but there will be an official opening and fun day one weekend in June.
Charlie Hulse, CIMBRA secretary said: “This is the culmination of about 18 months work and we are thrilled that the park will be opening soon.
“We have managed to secure more than £80,000 in funding in order to make this happen and now the contracts with the land owners Muir have been signed.”
Notice of the work will be posted and an agreement has been made that no site deliveries will be made before 9am to ensure that children in the area get to school before deliveries start.
Deputy Mayor, Cllr Geoff Settle said: “I am very pleased that we have reached this important milestone.
“CIMBRA have done the leg work in the consultation process with local residents. They have held awareness fun days and ultimately put together the successful bid with the help of Muir’s community development officer Beverly Plama to secure funding from WREN and Muir Housing.
“I’m looking forward to the mid-June completion date and the opening of this much needed community asset.”
CIMBRA will keep everyone up to date on progress and will confirm the date for the celebration in about four weeks after the work is underway.
