With the Easter holidays less than two weeks away, many people will be heading for the countryside for their first walk after the winter. Even if you walk regularly throughout the year, then checking through your equipment is a vital task especially if you venture into the hills.

Boots are probably the most important item on your equipment list. Keeping them waterproof is imperative particularly in our rather damp climate. After completing a walk, dry your boots and brush off any mud. There are many products available to assist waterproofing and these should be applied as outlined in the instructions. After being in store for the winter, boots may have lost their ability to repel water so application of waterproofing agent will be advantageous.

The next most important item is a waterproof clothing, preferably of the breathable variety. These usually require some form of reproofing every few months and again there are many suitable products available from your local outdoor shop. Most can be applied easily and help keep you dray and warm when in the outdoors.

Remember there is no such thing as the wrong weather! The problem is always the wrong clothing and equipment! If you need advice on what to take or are completely new to walking then see the recommended link.
