A NEWTON tea company is hoping to bring back an ancient celebration.
Lancashire Tea is urging drinkers to welcome the return of Refreshment Sunday'.
The historic day allowed weak-willed people a chance to indulge on the items they had given up for Lent.
The day fell on the fourth Sunday of Lent, which is now Mother's Day, and saw the rules of fasting relaxed for the day in honour of the story of the feeding of the 5,000.
Lynn Hitchen, from Lancashire Tea, said: "We admire the discipline of those who give something up for Lent but as we're in the industry that aims to refresh and relax people, we want to encourage the return of Refreshment Sunday to allow people a break and to indulge themselves."
