A CHIP shop in Penketh is celebrating its 40th anniversary, which could make it the longest family-run chip shop in town.
The chip shop was first opened in 1967 by Harry Avraam.
But frying oil must run through the family's veins as, when Harry decided to retire to his native Cyprus, he passed over the reins to his son, Nik.
Harry's Fish Bar is marking the event with a number of promotions and is giving away £10,000 worth of free food vouchers in a scratch card promotion game.
Nik said: "We take a lot of pride in the work we do. We have always been ahead of the business. We were the first to offer delivery and the first to wear uniforms."
Harry's Fish Bar was among the first chippies to enter cyberspace with its own website. And the future looks bright, with a new addition to the family, eight-month-old Harry, a contender to continue in the family business.
Nik added: "We could be able to celebrate our 60th or 70th anniversary!"
