MONEY to renew Westy Park has not been siphoned off, the borough council has said.
Clr Hans Mundy (Lab - Latchford East) had been concerned that £100,000 awarded for the park had not appeared in this year's accounts.
But the council said £100,000 "has been identified for the phased redevelopment of Westy Park".
A spokesman said: "The redevelopment of Westy Park is a priority of the council and we are currently working closely with the Environment Agency on an environmental study of the land in the park.
"This is due to be completed in April 2007. Once the results have been finalised, the council will begin to consult with residents and consider ideas on the best way forward for the park's improvements."
The £100,000 was set aside around five years ago for improvements to the park.
Spending was put on hold until the Environment Agency had finished studying pollution at the park and additional cash could be found to fund a complete works programme.
Potentially dangerous levels of methane have been found under the park, which used to be a tip. When the study is finished the hope is more funding can be found from recycling funds to boost the pot. The original £100,000 came from the sale of the 3C Waste business formerly operated by Warrington, Halton and Cheshire councils.
