A CHRISTMAS fundraising campaign supported by Ikea raised nearly £2 million for UNICEF and Save the Children.

Ikea Warrington at Gemini was just one of 237 stores worldwide and 15 stores in the UK that invited customers to support vulnerable children around the globe by purchasing soft toys.

For each toy sold, Ikea donated £1 to be split between the two leading international children's organisations.

UK customers bought nearly 149,000 toys, a rise of 66 per cent from the previous year's campaign.

The money will support a range of child protection, health and education work across Africa, Asia and Europe, including sport for development programmes in Guinea, protecting young people from child labour in India, child abandonment programmes in Romania, working with children affected by migration in China and school health and nutrition work in Bangladesh.
