POLICE have ruled out foul play in the death of a 51-year-old man who was hit by a train at Winwick Junction last week.
British Transport Police have investigated the circumstances of the fatality near Bank Quay station but are not treating it as suspicious', a spokesman said.
The man, who is from Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, has been formally identified but police were unable to release his name as the Guardian went to press, although his family have been told.
He was killed shortly before 8pm last Wednesday by the 16.46 Virgin train from Glasgow to London.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene and the line was initially closed by police while an investigation was carried out before being handed back to Network Rail shortly after 8.30pm.
A file is now being prepared for the coroner ahead of an inquest into the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
