"I THINK there's a moral duty for the council to give the people of Westy what they deserve."

Clr Hans Mundry, (Lab - Latchford East), wants a £100,000 guarantee from the borough council and he has not got it.

The money was set aside around five years ago for improvements to the park.

Spending was put on hold until the environment agency had finished studying pollution at the park and additional cash could be found to fund a complete works programme.

But it was not listed in the budget presented to the full council and Clr Mundry wants assurances that the money has not disappeared into the general budget, which he has not yet received.

"I'm worrying it's been taken away and put into something else," said Clr Mundry, who is waiting on a written reply after his questions could not be answered at the meeting.

"The people of Latchford east put up with the tip long enough, they deserve to have it put right."

The Environment Agency study, which is looking at underground methane from the park's days as a tip, is due to conclude this month.

After that finishes the hope is more funding can be found from recycling funds run by Biffa and Wren to boost the pot.

The original £100,000 came from the sale of the 3C Waste business formerly operated by the three councils of Warrington, Halton and Cheshire.
