FROM teens to 90-year-olds, mourners packed a church to say goodbye to a much loved friend, colleague and family member.

Louise Spencer, aged 39, from Heath Road in Penketh, died last month after a battle with cancer.

But in accordance with her wishes, the funeral included Eagles songs Desperado and Hotel California.

Dad, Ken Gange, said: "As part of the eulogy, a letter written by one of Louise's former colleagues was read.

"The letter expressed the overwhelming sentiment that Louise made them feel good when they were with her.

"She was fun and loved dancing, singing, sports and cooking for the many parties she gave.

"She was a true friend when they needed help."

Louise's family, husband, Steve, and children Lucy, aged 21, and Sam, aged 17, mum, Joyce, and mother-in-law, Nancy, have been inundated with a mountain of letters and cards since Louise's death.

She spent the final stages of her illness in St Rocco's Hospice in Bewsey and it was in the Sunflower room that Lucy celebrated her 21st birthday.

The requiem mass, held at St Joseph's RC Church in Penketh, was conducted by the Rev Chris Cunningham and he spoke warmly of visiting her in St Rocco's.

Mr Gange added: "Sam touched the hearts of all the congregation when he bravely managed to say a few words about his beloved mother."

The mourners included nurses, consultants and staff and former colleagues from Marks and Spencer.

Mr Gange said: "St Rocco's nursing staff were incredible, accomplishing wonderful, professional care with compassion and cheerfulness.

"Louise insisted that all her visitors be cheerful and never failed to appreciate her nurses and doctors. A quiet please or thank you touched all hearts."

l A large amount of money was collected at St Joseph's, from Steve's work colleagues at Ford in Halewood and from Louise's former colleagues at Marks and Spencer and Warrington NHS which is to be donated to St Rocco's Hospice.
