IT was a novel day in Appleton Thorn on Thursday as pupils celebrated World Book Day.
As part of the national event, marking the importance of books, children at Appleton Thorn Primary School got the chance to dress as their favourite characters and talk about their most loved books.
Each class had a cake baked by teaching assistant Rita Mathias with the name of a famous children's author on top.
The seven cakes ranged from Roald Dahl to Enid Blyton.
The youngsters also brought in their favourite books and played literary games.
