The Warrington Guardian carried a great advert this week.
People were invited to watch greyhound racing four days a week at the town's track - and the advert billed it as Ascot of the North'.
The paper also carried the latest update of one of the serialised thrillers that were popular between the wars.
The Dark Scarab was a thrilling mystery of the east' and this week's episode ended with a mystical Egyptian hypnotising the hero's girlfriend. To be continued!
There was a strange death at Whitecross Institution, which became Warrington Hospital. Margaret Hill, aged 68, died from choking on a piece of orange.
And in cricket there was a resounding win for Crosfields over Widnes. The Warrington batsmen "took full measure of the attack, and played on the wood a merry tune."
