MORE than 60 bellydancers shimmied down to Nantwich Civic Hall to raise money for two important charities.

The exotic night of dance called Lailat al Raqs saw performers from across the north west demonstrate a variety of different dances from the genre in a two-hour show.

Guests enjoyed a display of eclectic styles including folkdances, ballet, Sufi, classical, modern bellydance, Bollywood, classical and Indian abinaya among many others.

The beneficiaries for the night were Springfield School in Crewe, which helps children with special needs and Share Music UK, which provides performing art holidays for adults with severe physical difficulties.

Bellydancing teacher Majenta Al Jamilah said: "I've been teaching and performing for a while now and I wanted to showcase these dances.

"There are a lot of adults and children with special needs who I wanted to raise money for as well."

On the high profile night, visitors also enjoyed a hot Arabic buffet, whirling dervish bazaar, Arabic disco and auction, with prizes donated by four football clubs.
