BENTS Garden Centre in Glazebury was the venue for a reception to promote the different regions of Cheshire.

Civic heads from Vale Royal, Chester, Macclesfield, Crewe & Nantwich, Halton, Ellesmere Port & Neston joined Warrington Mayor Clr Linda Dirir at the visit, part of an annual programme of events.

The group was taken on a guided tour of the centre by managing director Matthew Bent and learned about Bents' longstanding history, from its roots as rose growers in the 1930s to today's business which employs nearly 300 people.

Bents is one of only 10 Garden Centres of Excellence in the UK and the GCA's (Garden Centre Association) Centre of the Year 2006.

The GCA title is awarded following an extensive annual audit and Bents is currently one of the UK's top three garden centres awaiting a decision on the 2007 title.

Matthew said: "We were delighted to have been chosen by the mayor to host the visit and very proud that we are considered among the best in Warrington."
