A STUDY needs to be redone into the allocation of disabled parking places in the town centre, so great have the changes been.

Warrington Disability Partnership originally mapped out where people could park in 1991.

At that point neither the police nor the council knew where disabled people could park. And the new developments in the town centre, plus the impact of the new traffic wardens, means the work needs doing again, said Dave Thompson, chairman of the Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP).

He said: "There are nearly 10,000 blue badge holders in Warrington.

"With Legh Street and Golden Square being out of action we know people have been using other places to park.

"Before the traffic wardens started, people would probably otherwise have got away with it."

The WDP hopes to complete the study by April.

"In the meantime, if people are sensible, they should be okay," said Mr Thompson. "The people doing the ticketing are human beings, not tyrants. They are approachable, and you should talk to them."
