THE Warrington Cycle Forum has made a good start, reports Rod King, press officer for Warrington Cycle Campaign.

The forum met for the second time last week at the Gateway, Sankey Street, and elected a chairman and adopted a constitution.

Reports were made on the development of a Warrington cycle map and also child cycle training.

Mr King said: "While cycle training is welcomed by the members, there were some questions as to why the investment being made in our children's future mobility is as low as just £25,000 per annum.

"This with the millions spent on education and roads. This is not a criticism of council officers but more a realisation that we need to be far more committed to cycle training."

Mr King said the forum was providing a useful meeting place, especially for funding ways of encouraging car users to respect cyclists.

He said the next meeting will look at ideas for changing the way the roads are shared for the benefit of cyclists who feel intimidated by fast traffic.
