Ecology trail

DID you know that Old Billy, the oldest horse in the Guinness Book of Records, was from Woolston?

This is just one of the fun facts that can be learnt by going along to New Cut Heritage and Ecology Trail's open day on March 28 between 10.30am and 1pm at Woolston Community Hub.

Attendees will be able to see if their house or road is on one of the group's old maps and learn the importance of the river and the canal.

The group is also looking to speak to people with memories and photographs of years gone by and details will be available of their aims for the Woolston, Paddington and Paddington Bank wildlife corridor.

The event is free and for more information call 01925 813939.

Credit union

A CREDIT union is appealing for volunteers after a recent surge in demand for its services.

North East Warrington Credit Union (NEWCU) is a not-for-profit community based financial co-operative in Cinnamon Lane, Fearnhead which helps people who want to save or borrow small amounts.

The union is run completely by volunteers, but it is in need of more people willing to give up their time due to an increase in demand following the launch of a new Helping Hand loan that helps people avoid payday lenders.

Lounge access prize

A LEADING workspace provider is offering free business lounge access to anybody who buys one of the company’s raffle tickets.

Regus, which has an office on Crab Lane, Fearnhead, is running the raffle for three UK charities: Macmillan Cancer Support, Debra and the Hilton in the Community Foundation.

Tickets are available from the Fearnhead office for £1 and buyers will have the opportunity to work in a Regus Business Lounge for a day.

First prize in the raffle is a luxury New York break for two people, with other prizes including a two-night stay for two in Provence and a behind the scenes tour of ITV’s This Morning show.

The winning ticket will be drawn on June 26 at Regus’ London Monument centre.

Richard Morris, UK CEO of Regus, said: “We wanted to show our support for these important charities and opening our Business Lounges for free gives people that extra incentive to buy a ticket and make a difference.

“It’s a win-win for ticket buyers – not only will they be in the hat for the main prize draw in June but they’ll also get to experience our business lounge workspaces and perhaps discover exactly why businesses across the UK are choosing to work more flexibly and more effectively.”
