Made his long-awaited Warrington debut during 2006 after missing out in his first season at the Wolves due to a serious injury, Grix immediately looked a natural in the Super League environment. A genuine ball-playing loose forward who had a good ratio of scoring tries in 2006, Grix has added some bulk to his frame after reaping the benefits of a full-time weights programme. A versatile player who featured in both three-quarter line and stand-off whilst playing for his home town club Halifax, Grix will be an important squad player for the Wolves as the likely first reserve for either of the halfback positions as well as competing for a starting spot in the back row. He was highly decorated as a junior representative player, with England Schools caps at every level from U15 level upwards, he was a member of the victorious England Academy tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2004. He turned professional from King Cross ARLFC, Halifax, making 6 Super League appearances for Fax during their relegation season of 2003, and scoring 6 tries in 13 National League One games in 2004. Was approached by Australian club Newcastle Knights before choosing to sign for the Wolves for 2005; Grix's final appearance for Halifax was at stand-off in their dramatic NL1 Qualifying Series Final comeback against York which preserved their NL1 status. His tackle success percentage of 97.56% in 2006 was the highest in the club, and 9th best in Super League overall.
