ON FRIDAY, January 5, 28 Explorers from Warrington East travelled down south to join the other thousands of Explorers and Scouts at Gilwell winter camp. This camp was the first big event of 2007, being one of many held to celebrate 100 years of scouting.
Arriving at Gilwell quite late, the explorers had the task of setting up camp. You can only imagine the dismay when the first raindrop fell. It wouldn't rain all weekend - or would it?
However, the weather didn't stop everyone having a go at the many activities, which included climbing, rifle shooting and a fairground. Some explorers even braved the sea of mud and went quad biking. There was even a tea-tent if anyone needed a rest from the fun/rain.
The weekend soon came to a close and, after the hard task of packing up (and getting the minibus started), the group headed back home, a lot muddier than they were on arrival.
