GET in the spirit for Westy fun and sports day this Saturday.

The event, organised by the Latch Ford Big Local scheme, will give youngsters the chance to take part in lots of fun sporting activities.

And community groups who have been benefitting from part of the £1 million in National Lottery funding will also be on hand showing off their skills.

Among them will be the Brass Monkey Film Group who will be setting up fun filming opportunities for youngsters such as becoming a TV weather presenter.

Cakes and treats are being baked by the Women of Westy, while homemade bunting will be flying from the rafters of Westy Community Centre courtesy of the Pins & Needles sewing group.

Philip Blocksidge, Timebank development officer, said: “The day will be an opportunity for local residents to find out more about how £1 million pounds of lottery money is being spent in The Latch Ford Big Local Area to make their neighbourhood an even better place to live in.

“From storming the bouncy castle to throwing wet sponges at villains in the ye olde medieval stocks, the Westy fun and sports day promises to be an event you won’t want to miss.”

The fun runs from noon at Westy Community Centre, on Bridgewater Avenue.
