A GROUP of travellers, which set up camp on the village green in the centre of Culcheth, have been moved on.
But Culcheth resident Jim Fox has denied that this is the case as two caravans have returned to the site.
He said: "From what I can see they have left a mess behind. There are still two caravans there.
"I heard there were some problems last night with people making threats."
The council carried out a site visit this morning following reports from concerned residents after the travellers descended on to the land.
Police also attended the site yesterday evening, Wednesday.
It is believed around 20 caravans had parked up on the land.
In a joint statement, Helen Jones Warrington North MP, Clr Chris Vobe and Clr Matt Smith (Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft - LAB) said: "It is disgraceful that these people can get on to the village green and confront residents.
"Everyone, whatever lifestyle they choose, should obey the law."
It is understood that the majority of the group moved on from Culcheth at around 11am this morning after taking up residence on the land yesterday evening.
