THE former site of one of Warrington’s biggest breweries will be revisiting its old life next weekend.
The Halliwell Jones Stadium sits on the site of the former Tetley Walker brewery.
And on May 2 and 3 it will home to the first Wire2Wolves Beer Festival, which is being sponsored by Carlsberg Tetley.
The brewery stood on Winwick Road and Dallam Lane until 1996 - with Walker’s and Tetleys merging in the 1960s before the final closure.
The site has since been redeveloped into the home of the Warrington Wolves, and the event will raise money for the club’s charitable foundation.
Neil Kelly, director of the foundation, said: “It is great that the first Wire2Wolves Beer Festival is being supported by Carlsberg Tetley.
“Many people will remember and have worked on the old brewery site to where the festival will take place.
“The brewery are keen to remember their heritage and proud to support the Wolves Foundation continue their great community work.”
The festival will run along the South Stand with the heritage timeline acting as a backdrop for the event.
Visitors will able to choose from 50 real ales sourced from the areas of the 14 Super League clubs, to celebrate the sport and the rich heritage of Warrington Wolves.
Admission is £5 per person (payable on the door), with access to a cider bar, drivers bar and World bottle beer bar, and will also feature live music from artists and bands.
Birchwood stars Conquer Rio are among the acts confirmed.
The doors open at 5pm until 11pm on Friday and then again on Saturday between noon and 11pm.
More than 1,000 people are expected to attend, For more information on the event or how you can become involved with sponsorship and volunteering opportunities, please call the foundation office on 248894.
