A WRESTLER from Warrington who has starred in matches around the world is bringing his talents back home.
Greg Tasker, 26, from Fearnhead, is better known to grappling fans as the mysterious masked man Voodoo. The former Woolston High School pupil began his in-ring career training with Wigan-based promotion Grand Pro Wrestling (GPW).
But when he moved to Hong Kong to study criminology at university, he began pitting his skills against aspiring professional wrestlers across the globe.
He said: “I wrestled for Zero-1 in Hong Kong and New Taiwan Wrestling in Taiwan.
“I lived in Australia for a bit and wrestled over there for Riot City Wrestling too.
“Travelling is great if you’re a wrestler because there are pockets of the wrestling community all over the world. Wherever you go, you’ve got friends.”
Since returning to the UK, Greg has formed one of the funniest tag teams in British wrestling, Science Fiction, with ‘Professor Mike Holmes’.
Appearing for companies including GPW and Preston City Wrestling, the duo also created the cult video sketch show, Science Fiction Studios.
Together they produce zany YouTube episodes parodying pop culture, which star homegrown wrestlers like Kris Travis and Dave Mastiff, and internationally famous talents such as AJ Styles and ‘The Million Dollar Man’ Ted DiBiase.
Greg said: “I took this path of doing a comedy style because basically I kind of see myself as the Santino Marella of British wrestling.
“He’s in WWE and he’s not the biggest, he gets beat up a lot, but he makes everyone laugh while doing it!”
Following the success of the ‘Great Warrington Bash’ at Rylands Social Club in Orford in November, Greg has organised a second event at the same venue.
‘Warrington Slam’ on Sunday will be headlined by a bout between ‘The Future’ James Drake and Ricky J. McKenzie, the GPW Money in the Bank briefcase holder.
A triple threat clash will see ‘Pound for Pound the Strongest Pure Athlete’ Tyson T-Bone collide with ‘100% Welsh Beef’ Dylan Roberts and ‘Dangerous’ Damon Leigh, while rising star Lana Austin faces Bellatrix Champion and self-proclaimed ‘Pocket Princess’, Violet O’Hara.
Elsewhere on the card Warrington’s own Sexy Kev, aka Kevin Lloyd from Great Sankey, takes on ‘The Native’ Wahoo Thunderfoot, while Babyface Pitbull faces three mystery challengers. Meanwhile, Science Fiction will also be in action. Entry is £8 for adults and £6 for children. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
