COUNCIL bosses are urging residents to sign up to the electoral register before votes in May.
Local elections and European elections take place on May 22 with a deadline of May 6 for people to register.
Alison McCormick, the council’s electoral services manager, said: “If you’re not on the electoral register you may not be able to get a credit rating.
“This could stop you applying for a credit card, a loan or a mortgage.
“And of course if you can’t vote, you lose the opportunity to have your say in who will represent you for the next few years, not just in the Town Hall council but also in the European Parliament.
“So we would encourage people to sign up to the electoral register, or tell us if you’ve moved – and don’t forget to apply for a postal vote if you need one.”
