WAISALE Naiqama is not ready for Fiji’s Rugby League World Cup 2013 dream to end just yet and believes his team has what it takes to go beyond the tournament’s Quarter-Finals as they take on Samoa at The Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington on Sunday, kick off 3pm.
The Penrith Panthers star was pleased with the performance The Bati put up against England, despite losing 34-12, and he knows that his side face another tough test against a strong Samoan side at the weekend.
“It is really pleasing for us to get through to the Quarter-Finals,” said Naiqama. “We said from the start that we wanted to get past the group stage of the competition so we are really happy with where we are at the moment and we want to continue on and reach the semi-finals.
“We took a lot of positives away from the England game. The coach was happy, particularly with the way we played in the first half, and the way we finished the game. For 65 minutes we played really well so we just need to work on that 15 minutes when we turned off and that will put us in good stead for this week.
“We have had a heavy week in training, doing double sessions, because we want to get as much work done as possible as we know Samoa will bring a really powerful game to us.”
This is the first time that Naiqama has visited the UK and he has thoroughly enjoyed his RLWC2013 experience. He knows what his team has to do to beat Samoa and claim one of the four Semi-Final spots.
“A couple of us went down and watched their game against France and they were just what we expected them to be: big, strong athletes. They like to offload the ball a lot and to beat them it is crucial that we put a stop to that.
“Overall the World Cup has been an awesome experience so far, especially coming over to the UK because a lot of us have never been here before so it has been good to come to a new country, take in the culture and go sightseeing. It has been such a great experience, I really don’t want it to end on Sunday.”
