USA Tomahawks rake Joel Luani smiles, breathes in and exclaims "I wish I had my sister's determination".

Luani is only days from the most important game in his career.

He, like all Tomahawks players, receives no wage during this tournament.

Yet as an example of how spirited this squad is, the Wests Tigers' cub is determined to use the team's exposure to help his sister's charity work.

The ITC Secure Networking Tomahawks take on the Australian Kangaroos this Saturday afternoon in the RLWC quarter finals in Wrexham, Wales.

This never-imagined elimination final against Cameron Smith's men will be the biggest test of Luani's infant career.

However, the bull of a hooker is spending his spare time raising awareness of his sister's plight for sick children in the South Pacific.

Luani's Las Vegas sister Pamrose, an ICU nurse raising four children, is donating two weeks of her life and expertise to Sea Mercy.

Sea Mercy operates a Free Floating Health Care Clinic in the South Pacific and their mission is to "stand in the gap" with a service delivery vessel, trained health volunteers, support equipment and medicines until island nations are able to develop their "outer island" health care infrastructure.

Her dedication to helping others has been an inspiration to Luani, who lost six kilograms in the two weeks leading up to USA's opening World Cup clash against Cook Islands.

"My sister has four kids herself that she raises and then she's also reaching out to do this... that's amazing," Luani said.

"I'm behind it obviously because she's my sister, but she's not rich, she doesn't have an easy lifestyle and even if she wasn't my sister I would be behind it.

"I wish I had the skills she had.

"Being a mother to four kids and knowing how many other mothers have it far worse than her inspired her.

"It is a great cause and I am just trying to do what I can to help her while I'm here."

Pamrose and Joel are asking for help in raising the necessary funds to participate in this incredible opportunity and to help cover the costs of medical supplies, equipment, fuel, food and fees for the two weeks of operation with Sea Mercy.
