COULD tapping your nose help alleviate stress and cure pain or could drumming your fingers on your cheek help to banish addictions, fight phobias and relieve exhaustion?

Lynsey McGrath, from Great Sankey, definitely thinks so and is now a qualified practitioner of a therapy called EFT, emotional freedom technique, which claims to be a new way to treat life’s stresses and strains.

Lynsey, who has been hosting workshops in EFT for the past three years, said: “In the past 12 months I have seen the public take more of an interest in EFT and this doesn’t surprise me.”

“It’s a great way to relax and alleviate a multitude of issues.”

In the past three years, Lynsey has taught NHS nurses, mental health outreach teams and teachers how to use EFT in a bid to reduce stress.

EFT, otherwise known as Tapping, involves applying repeated pressure to points on the hands, face and upper body whilst acknowledging the emotional or physical issue that needs to be resolved.

It’s very similar to acupuncture but without the needles and claims to the hold the key to emotional freedom.

A financial consultant from Great Sankey, who wishes to remain anonymous for personal reasons, has been practising EFT for the past year after she fell into depression and claims it has turned her life around.

She said: “I was married for 22 years. I thought I had the perfect life, the perfect husband but then my life fell apart when I got divorced.

“I think the stress of it all caused me to have irritable bowel problems so I signed up to meditation and EFT classes.

“The EFT has calmed by nerves and has really helped with my health problems. I also feel like I can deal things much better than I could before.”

Once you have learned the technique, you can practice EFT anywhere and at any time of the day.

It is popular with celebrities too - Madonna is rumoured to be a fan and Lily Allen supposedly used it to help her lose weight.

To try out EFT, the next level one course for beginners is taking place on Saturday, June 29, at The Olive Tree Community Centre in Penketh.
