FORMER Everton Football Club captain Dave Watson said he was happy to do anything he could to help after hearing the tragic news.

Everton fan Tim Parry’s family said it meant a lot to them for the 1995 FA Cup winner and manager Howard Kendall to visit Tim at Walton Hospital and attend his funeral.

The dominating centre half said: “It was something we wanted to do ourselves anyway and it just so happened Tim was an Evertonian so there was a few of us who visited the family.

“We just wanted to do anything we could to help the parents.”

The father-of-four is now moving to Newcastle to take up a coaching role but lived in Grappenhall at the time of the explosion.

He added: “It was totally unbelievable in the town afterwards.

“You just don’t think something like that will happen in the town where you live.

“It was devastating not just in Warrington but touched people all over the world.

“The funeral was a big occasion with TV cameras everywhere but very touching and seeing the parents that day is something that will stay with you.

“A lot of good work has gone on since and Colin and Wendy have done a tremendous job trying to push things and make them better.”
