TRAVELSTEAD Alvin Lee "Al" Alvin Lee " Al " Travelstead passed away on Friday 5th August 2022 at the Veterans' Affairs Medical Centre in Marion, Illinois, U. S.A. Born on 19th December 1952, Al entered into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and was stationed in the United States, Europe and the U.K. Whilst in the UK he met his wife Dorothy Mary Ward Ulm in Warrington and married in October 1979. She preceded him in death in February 2013. During his military service Al attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honourably discharged after 15 years in December 1987. His final Army posting was to Colorado Springs where he resided for 30 years before retiring to Southern Illinois to reunite with his loving family. Following military service Al affiliated with the American Legion and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of County Lines Baptist Church in Johnson County, Illinois. Al was also an avid fan of both the Colorado Rockies and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball teams. Al is survived by a Stepdaughter Lesley Ulm Warham and her husband Steve in the UK and 3 sisters-Sue Goddard and her husband Kenny of Vienna, Illinois, Donna Travelstead of Marion, Illinois and Barbara Clymore of Jonesboro, Illinois, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends. The funeral service, honouring his life, was held on 10th August 2022 at Bailey Funeral Home, Vienna. Burial was in Gilead cemetery, Simpson and Military Graveside Honours were accorded by Beggs-Gurley VFW Post #5222 and the Illinois National Guard Burial Honours Detail.
