CLOUGH Ernest Heywood Ernie, 89, passed away peacefully at his Penketh home of 60 years on June 21st. Ernie was preceded in death by his loving wife Molly, and is survived by his daughter Audrey (Taylor) and son Michael. Ernie was a wonderful father-in-law to Nick and Karen and an amazing grandad to Jack, Thomas, Lucy and Harry. He was an uncle to many and a steady source of advice to all who sought it. On July 14th, at 10.15AM, a service of remembrance will be held at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Meeting Ln, Penketh followed by committal at Walton Lea Crematorium at 11.20AM. Family flowers only with donations requested to Prostate Cancer UK. After leaving school at 13 Ernie was a lifelong learner, he was a fully qualified signwriter when at 21 National Service took him from Warrington to Hong Kong. Upon his return he married Molly in 1956 and then to save for a house deposit, they went to live and work for an idyllic 4 years in Bermuda. Here in paradise Ernie learned to water ski, snorkel, dive and set up an amateur football tournament. During this time, he often visited the USA and became a lifelong NY Yankees baseball fan. Returning to the UK, he worked in and around cars and in 1993 he retired as a senior sales rep from Berger Automotive Paints having traveled throughout Europe to demonstrate paint finish techniques, picking up some decent German along the way. Retirement saw Dad take up golf and bowls and he was an active bowler for the Crossfields pensioners team through to the end of the 2021 season. Dad took great pride in his family and loved to travel and share adventures with his children and grandchildren. Ernie was a great man, and he will be missed by family and friends around the world.
