PRESIDENT Karen Young welcomed 39 members plus one new member to the October meeting.
Muriel Parker was thanked for the plant on the president’s table and the plant was later taken to Freda Matthewson who is recovering from a fall.
The report of the August show should have stated that Helen Foster won most points in show and runner-up trophy for handicrafts.
Members were then thanked for all their contributions for the recent apple day stall at the Walled Garden where £424.30 was raised.
Future events announced included Christmas lunch at Trentham Gardens and lunch at the Fir Grove, plus a visit to Roberts Bakery.
The member’s day committee, led by Marie Leatherbarrow, took over the meeting. Guest speaker Colin Edmundson showed us a slide illustrating the canal walk from Lion Salt Works, Northwich, to Anderton Lift and back.
Many images were shown of sites of previous salt mines and the effect of subsidence in the Northwich area.
He was thanked by Marie Leatherbarrow for a most interesting and informative talk.
Tea with homemade cakes followed and all committee members were presented with a gift (handmade by Helen Foster).
Karen thanked the members day committee and Marie for a lovely afternoon.
Competition winners for a pair of novelty socks were: 1 Janet Boden, 2 Karen Young, 3 Jill Tickle.
Next meeting will be the AGM on November 15. There will be an exhibition of costume jewellery.
