IN September Lymm WI held a lunch at the youth and community centre to celebrate the centenary of the founding of the WI.
The hall was decorated with our specially made banner and bunting and the tables adorned with lovely floral arrangements made by Kathleen Whitehead.
Stockton Heath-based caterers Heaths provided an excellent first course of lasagne or chicken Provencal.
This was followed by gateaux or fruit salad.
The members wore their best hats and there was also a quiz and a raffle.
The committee organised an entertainment entitled ‘The Twelve months of WI’, based on ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’, which everyone joined in.
It was also a reminder of the many activities our WI engages in.
Many of our members also attended an afternoon tea on September 16 at Statham Lodge hotel to celebrate the centenary.
This was organised by the Egerton Group of which our WI is a member.
It was a lovely autumnal afternoon and the room was beautifully decorated with WI banners and bunting.
The sandwiches, scones and cakes tasted all the better for being served on lovely vintage china.
Next month we will be taking names for a trip to Chester for a Thanksgiving service at the Cathedral on November 18.
There will also be an opportunity to fit in some early Christmas shopping in Chester.
At our meeting next month on October14 we will welcome Mr Alan Hayhurst who will be talking about The Manchester Martyrs.
The competition will be an old photograph of Manchester.
We meet at the Lymm youth and community centre at 2pm and visitors are most welcome.
