Moore and Daresbury WI Show.
THE Moore and Daresbury WI show was held last week at the Milner Institute, Moore, where members and their families displayed a wonderful array of talents from art to craftwork and from baking to gardening.
There was a delightful collection of items made by the children from three to 14 years including painting, photography and poetry and the model animals made from vegetables caused much amusement.
Our President, Mrs Hazel Harkins, welcomed members and guests including visitors from other WIs in the Group and invited all present to enjoy all the entries in the various categories which were horticulture, floral art, produce, handicrafts and art.
Prizes were awarded for the best entries in each section as follows: Most overall points, Mrs Rita Pyne; best in show and first time entry, Mrs Marietta Norman; horticulture, Mrs Lyn Goodkin, Mrs Elanor Brittain and Mrs Ann Sheldon; floral art, Mrs Rita Pyne and Mrs Lyn Goodkin; produce, Mrs Cynthia Mason and Mrs Margaret Sykes; handicraft, Mrs Dorothy Martindale; art, Mrs Rita Pyne.
Mrs Jan McDonald, retiring head of Moore School, presented the prizes and received a beautiful mixed bouquet, as did Mrs Margaret Allen, who has taken a lead in organising the show for many years but has now decided to step down.
After a most enjoyable evening everyone was invited to have tea and cakes.
Our next meeting will be held at the Moore Institute on September 3, at 7.30pm when Mr David Smith from Greenhalghs Craft Bakery will give a talk and all newcomers will be welcome.
