OUR president Karen welcomed 47 members and two visitors to our July meeting.
Following the singing of Jerusalem, Marie Leatherbarrow was thanked for the floral arrangement on the president’s table.
The flowers were later taken to Ruth Houghton who is recovering from a hip operation.
Members were reminded of our show in August and urged to enter and support it.
Eight members had submitted a total of 12 entries for the Cheshire Show and seven awards were received. Our co-operative entry gained second place. The items were on display and the winners were congratulated.
Our guest speaker, Dr Mike Taylor, gave an illustrated presentation entitled Money and the Downfall of the Pickerings. It contained interesting facts about Thelwall in the 1700s and an insight into the items bought for the inhabitants of the Manor.
A vote of thanks was given by Dorothy Platt for the fascinating presentation.
The competition for a money box attracted many varied items and the winners were: 1 Shirley Jones, 2 Diana Lewis, 3 Janet Boden.
Our next meeting is August 20 at 2.15pm Bellhouse Lane Community Centre and features the members show – a wide range of items will be on display.
Visitors are welcome.
