COULD you take on a 10k race while enduring a set of Bear Grylls-style survival challenges?
Expect ice-climbing, jungle ropes, a 15m drop, fire lighting and a precision air rifle challenge when the Bear Grylls Survival Race launches at Tatton Park on September 24. Full details of the event, which is partnered with Stand Up To Cancer, are not being revealed until on the day.
But prepare for a jolt of adrenalin with an intense range of jungle, mountain, desert and Arctic themed challenges incorporating Commando-style techniques.
Around 3,500 willing victims will be taking on the survival race at Tatton Park and Weekend has teamed up with the organisers to give away five pairs of tickets, which are worth more than £100 per pair.
We also have 10 family passes to the Bear Grylls Outdoor Festival which runs alongside the race. The passes, worth £90, allow up to six people into the festival. Below, we outline what you can expect from each aspect of the event and give details on how to enter the competition.
Bear Grylls Survival Race
A range of obstacles will be between you and your goal, all inspired by the adventurous life of Bear Grylls. There will be 5k and 10k courses available with the 5k race aimed at those with limited experience of this type of event to push themselves and make a positive impact on their health and fitness goals.
The 10k Survival Race cranks up the pressure and is designed to test even the toughest adventurers.
A spokesman for the event said: “Participants will be encouraged to survive by completing our unique survival challenges including fire-lighting and air rifle shooting. The general aim being to uncover their inner survivor through a series of professionally constructed themed zones.
“Think Crystal Maze but with bells on and a whole lot more physical endurance testing.”
Bear added: “This is about empowering people to test and extend their adventure fitness, using the type of obstacles that I have often encountered in the wild. We all have an edge and this race is designed to push those physical and mental limits to there and beyond.”
Bear Grylls Kids’ Race
‘Little bears’ aged between four and 13 will make their way through the jungle, desert, mountains and the Arctic all in one course.
Up to 2,000 youngsters are set to take part at Tatton Park.
The spokesman added: “Our aim is to provide the same experience for the kids as the adults. Bear is a big believer in the idea that kids are the next generation of survival experts and we hope we can be part of how their adventuring starts.
“The Bear Grylls Kids’ Race is a perfect chance to get the kids back outdoors and off their computers to begin their relationship with adventure.”
Outdoor Festival
Expect gourmet pop-up food stalls, craft shops, bush survival demonstrations on the main stage.
While the race is going on you can have an adventure of your own with the chance to do a bungee jump and try out water-zorbing and Segway. Alongside live music there will be para jet flying shows, falconry and for the brave, a bush-grub eating contest.
There will also be race-viewing points within the festival and the opportunity to dabble in some of the survival challenges featured in the race.
