Peter Yealands Sauvignon Blanc 2014, £7.99, Co-op
The price given for each of this week’s wines is £2 cheaper than normal because of an offer that lasts until February 3.
Excuse the corny joke but if you are having a ‘dry January’ this one might be ok because it is a tastily dry white from New Zealand’s Marlborough region.
Alcohol level is a reasonable 12.5% and it will keep until abstinence finishes!
Montes Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, £6.99, Co-op
Aurelio Montes’ wines from Chile’s Colchagua Valley have a deservedly good reputation and this one really is a bargain buy.
There is 15% of Merlot with the Cabernet Sauvignon and it helps smooth the lovely rich blackcurrant flavours and there’s also a touch of vanilla and chocolate with just a hint of oak too.
An ideal winter drink with all kinds of hearty dishes.
