WHEN the queue stretches back almost an hour just to get in, you know the place is pretty popular.
And so it was that, naively perhaps, we turned up to Spooky World in Stretton on a Saturday night in October.
Put it simply, the owners are onto something special.
For in the autumn, Apple Jacks farm becomes an amusement park based on all things scary.
And the place is packed beyond belief.
We also queued an hour to get into each of the attractions and the car park was bedlam with scores upon scores of teenagers being dropped off so they can get scared senseless.
And for that demographic, Spooky World is perfect.
An old fashioned fun fair, but with better rides and a more professional set up.
Our favourite ride was the tractor pull. A dramatic journey which includes a visit to the pond (where you stay dry) but a few ‘attacks’ from so not so friendly faces (where you get wet).
The attraction uses the vast spaces of land perfectly to create a fun trip.
But top tip, sit on the outside of the cart for extra screams.
We also enjoyed the Slaughterhouse - where actors jump at you or creepily whisper in your ears as you make your way through a dark series of tunnels, highlighted by fake animal parts.
And the queues don’t feel so long when a zombie with a chainsaw comes running at you.
A word of warning.
Get there early to make sure you get on all four major attractions - our empty stomachs meant we missed two. And don’t bring the kids - part of the park after dark is really too frightening.
