McGuigan The Semillon Blanc 2012, £8.99, Morrisons
Many Aussie wines are heavy on alcohol so it’s quite unusual to find a white that’s just 12 per cent.
The Semillon grape is a favourite down under but more often found blended with others. Lots of tropical fruit flavours and a clean taste.
The label interestingly suggests it should be drunk within two days of opening – a warning to some wine bars?
Lussac Saint Emilion 2010, £9.99, Morrisons
Good Saint Emilion is my favourite Bordeaux red and this example doesn’t disappoint.
It’s produced by the small family concern especially for Morrisons and is rich in the blackcurrants and prunes you would expect.
This claret weighs in at 13.5 per cent – high for France – but the intense flavours fully justify the extra alcohol.
