Vina Ludy Albarino 2013, £7.99, Morrisons
Albarino is the white grape that’s native to Spain’s north west province of Galicia and particularly the Rias Baixas region.
The weather is wetter and the landscape greener than in the country’s centre and south and this wine is dry but at the same time aromatic with bags of rich fruit flavour.
Great with fish and pleasantly different.
Calvet Cahors Malbec 2012, £7.99, Morrisons
Cahors is an area in the Quercy district of south west France which has for centuries been home to a rich, dark red wine made with a local grape.
That grape is Malbec which is probably better known in most of the world now as the popular generic red from Argentina.
This is a good example of the historic European version, plummy, and only 12.5% alcohol.
