PARR Hall’s stage is to be transformed into an ‘ice rink’ for the first time in its history.
Ice Glitz Productions will present Winter Wonderland On Ice in the same space that was used by the Rolling Stones and the Stone Roses.
The stage may only be 5.86m by 10.6m but up to 10 skaters will perform routines at the same time tonight, Thursday.
Yvette Mauback-Lang, who runs Ice Glitz Productions, said: “We have a week of intensive rehearsals all day, every day because when you’re doing a routine everyone has to know where they’re going.
“It’s entertaining for the audience when they see us going around so fast and being able to cross in between each other and things like that.
“It almost looks like we’re going to crash but we don’t.”
Winter Wonderland On Ice features performers from ITV’s Dancing On Ice, Disney On Ice and Cirque Du Soleil.
But Yvette told Weekend that using synthetic ice does not detract from the spectacle.
“People can’t believe we’ve brought an ice rink to the place,”
she added.
“It’s like a big white chopping board that you click together like jigsaw panels.
“But we use our normal ice skates and do everything we would do on ice. It’s just not frozen water.
“It can be quite entertaining when we’re first rehearsing on something that size.
You get used to it, you just have to grip on at the corners a little bit more.
“It was a challenge when I first set up my company with synthetic ice but I have very talented skaters that can adapt to anything.
They do me really proud.”
The family variety performance will include numerous routines from 50s rock and roll to a festive showcase with Rudolph, penguins and snowmen.
But the main part of the story will see toy dog Rusty come to life in a winter wonderland.
Yvette knew she wanted to be a performer after her nan took her to see 42nd Street at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool when she was young.
She started ice skating when was 11 and had turned professional by the time she was 16.
But it took a lot of dedication.
“I wasn’t very good when I started,” said Yvette, who grew up in Ribble Valley.
“It’s not something that came easy to me. I had to work at it but if you want something that much you have to put everything into it and that’s what I did.”
Yvette’s big break was with Holiday On Ice and she has since toured all over the world.
She added: “I did a circus tour all over Grease and Turkey. I’ve been to Hong Kong and Las Vegas and all these different, wonderful places performing in shows.
“I hope to continue to do that now but this for me is quite special doing it here. It’s nice to bring it home.
“It was my passion and dream to do my own show and give people in towns in the north west the same experience of the great shows you can get on the West End.”
