WITH such an iconic band of the Manchester scene playing next to a monument of the space age, it was a proud day to be a northerner.
New Order dazzled their fans with huge hits like True Faith, Regret and signature tune Blue Monday at Jodrell Bank on Sunday.
The Lovell Telescope proved the perfect backdrop for the band’s new wave and electronic anthems with the dish used as a gigantic 76m projection screen.
And the significance of the night was not lost on New Order’s frontman Bernard Sumner as he thanked those who made the unique and ‘very cool’ gig possible.
He said: “Jodrell Bank is a fantastic institution, a bit like New Order itself.”
It was an evening of pure celebration as revellers of all ages danced their way through the two-hour show.
This was never more evident than when the projector transformed the Lovell Telescope into a giant disco ball for the song Temptation.
The sombre tones of their previous band Joy Division seemed worlds away.
That was until the quintet paid tribute to their tumultuous past with an encore featuring the seminal hit Love Will Tear Us Apart.
