A GANG who were caught with drugs and an air gun following a police chase have been jailed.

Christopher Waring, Olukieme Oyinloye and Richard Antrobus have all been handed time behind bars after leading officers on a pursuit through Birchwood before crashing into a kerb.

Liverpool Crown Court heard on Monday, February 11, that a police officer spotted a black Ford Focus car that was wanted in connection with a robbery at the Oakwood Gate roundabout shortly after 6.30pm on Saturday, August 25.

Driven by 25-year-old Waring, the vehicle accelerated away in a bid to make off from the scene - travelling at 50mph through the 30mph roadworks area.

A third party had to brake suddenly to avoid a crash at the roundabout junction, with the defendants then continuing onto Birchwood Park Avenue and Glover Road.

The vehicle came to a stop when it crashed into the kerb on Havisham Close.

When an officer approached the vehicle and reached into the car in order to remove the keys from the ignition, Waring wound the window up and trapped his arm in it.

A search of the vehicle found a bag in the front passenger seat, containing a silver metal pistol and around £250 of cannabis.

It was later discovered that the weapon was actually a ‘very realistic-looking’ BB air gun.

Waring, of Denver Drive in Chapelford, was jailed for 26 months after admitting possession of cannabis with intent to supply, possession of an imitation firearm, dangerous driving and battery.

The car mechanic - who was also banned from driving for two years following his release from prison - has seven previous convictions, including possession of cannabis with intent to supply and being concerned in the supply in cannabis.

He was also previously jailed when a spanner was thrown from a car he was driving, damaging another vehicle, and when a hammer was thrown through the window of a love rival’s Renault Clio following a pursuit on the roads.

Thirty-year-old Oyinloye, who was pregnant at the time of the police chase, was jailed for eight months after admitting being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

The defendant, of Strawberry Close in Birchwood, has one previous conviction for arson - having set fire to a former partner’s car and herself in the process, after the breakdown of her relationship.

She will be released from prison in the near future, having been held in remand since the incident in August.

Qualified asbestos remover and dad-of-two Antrobus - who has 14 previous convictions, including production of cannabis - was jailed for two months after admitting possession of a firearm.

This jail time will be served concurrently with a two-year sentence the 33-year-old, of Padgate Lane, was handed in December for actual bodily harm.

Judge Jonathan Foster also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the air gun and drugs.

Sentencing, he said: “You were clearly ready for street dealing.

“This was a pretty unattractive combination of offences.

“Do think about what you’ve been doing - drugs are evil.

“When you come out of prison, the only way to stop it is to steer clear of it all.

“Otherwise, you will be back here as night follows day.”
