KEVIN Brown’s season is over before it has even begun after suffering a serious injury in training yesterday.

The club have confirmed the veteran half-back has ruptured his Achilles tendon – an injury that is expected to keep him out for around nine months.

"Scans have revealed a ruptured Achilles with a recovery time of around nine months," a club statement read.

"The club will fully support Kevin during his recovery and rehab."

The vast majority of first-team players were not involved in yesterday’s pre-season friendly at Rochdale Hornets but instead trained in the morning.

It is as yet unclear whether Warrington will ask for salary cap dispensation from the RFL – as Castleford did when Luke Gale suffered a similar injury earlier this month.

The news comes as a serious blow less than a week before their opening Super League game against Leeds Rhinos.
