WARRINGTON Wolves have received a slight injury boost ahead of their Super League play-off opener against St Helens at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday, kick off 6pm.

A worried Tony Smith revealed both Stefan Ratchford and Ben Harrison had suffered knee and ligament injuries during the 52-14 win against Widnes Vikings yesterday, Sunday, which put the pair's play-off availability in doubt.

But after undergoing scans early this week, the duo's prognosis has since improved.

“They have come though a lot better than we first feared,” said head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith.

“I will know more tomorrow once we have had the cautionary scans on them, but they have come through a lot better than we first hoped.”

But there was bad news for Challenge Cup final casualty Ben Westwood , with Smith revealing that Saturday’s huge clash against bitter rivals Saints may come a week too soon for the second rower, who was named in the Super League Dream Team for the third successive season on Monday.

“Ben won’t play this week”, said Smith.

“It gives us another week at least to keep on improving his knee and if it was an absolute knock out game it would still be pushing it.

“We certainly wouldn’t want to risk him this week and lose him for many more to come.

“If we can get out there and do a good job without him, that would be great.”
