TONY Smith’s efforts in building his Wolves squad continued this week after he secured a talented young duo to new deals.
Both Simon Grix and Matty Blythe have committed their immediate futures to the club as head of coaching and rugby Smith aims to develop a team capable of challenging for silverware.
The pair have each been rewarded with one-year extensions to their current deals, which were due to expire in November, keeping them at the club until 2010.
The versatile Grix has been a key member of Wolves’ squad this year and scored twice in Saturday’s 18-16 win at Hull FC.
Capable of playing loose forward, stand off and centre, the 23-year-old has shrugged off injuries that restricted his last campaign to make 10 appearances so far this term.
Blythe has not figured quite as heavily but has shown enough promise to suggest the club should keep him on.
Strength and speed make the 20-year-old back rower an explosive runner and he has already made as many appearances this year as he did in the whole of 2008.
