Warrington Wolves 40 Leeds Rhinos 16

WARRINGTON Wolves’ reserve team sit top of the Reserve Team Championship after a thumping 40-16 win against Leeds Rhinos.

Simon Grix scored two tries as he continues his recovery from a shoulder injury suffered in the final game of last season, Wolves’ play-off defeat at Catalans.

Having been named in Warrington’s 19-man squads for the past two Super League games, against Wakefield and Leeds, he could be in line for a recall after another eye-catching display at right centre.

Highly rated young back row forward Tyrone McCarthy and full back Chris Murphy both also touched down twice, while stand off Nigel Scott scored once.

Gareth O’Brien maintained his good form with the boot, kicking six goals to add to the nine he managed in the reserves’ opener at Wakefield.

Kevin Penny played his second consecutive game for the reserve team after being dropped from the first-team squad following the 26-14 defeat in their opening game at St Helens.
