WARRINGTON Wolves supporters attending this May’s engage Super League Magic Weekend are being urged to don their running shoes and sign up for the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run which takes place in the city on Sunday 3 May.

Thousands of Rugby League supporters are expected to head north of the border on 2 and 3 May to see the third annual Magic Weekend and Edinburgh officials are keen to stress that as well seven games of engage Super League action visitors can take part in a whole host of other activities including the 10km run.

Held on the Sunday of the Magic Weekend, and starting at 10.10 (tbc), more than 10,000 runners of all abilities are expected to take part in the run that will pass a number of the city’s famous landmarks including Edinburgh Castle, The Scott Monument, The Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace.

And, to encourage Rugby League followers to take part, race organisers have agreed to tag all participants with which team they support and Super League sponsors engage have offered to reward the fastest male and female supporters with two VIP tickets each to October’s Grand Final at Old Trafford.

The engage Super League club with the fastest fans will also receive a trophy after the event.

Phil Williams, the RFL’s Marketing Manager, said: “One of the huge benefits of Edinburgh is that there is so much for the family to do before and after the games start at Murrayfield.

“The Great Edinburgh Run falls conveniently on the Sunday when thousands of our fans will be in the city, so we are encouraging them to get fit and sign up to take part in the run and raise thousands of pounds for charity.”

As well as the Great Edinburgh Run for over 15’s, the city will also be hosting the Mini and Junior Edinburgh Runs over 1.4km and 2.4km on the same day Suitable for girls and boys of all ages – the Mini run is aimed at youngsters aged from 3 to 8 years while the Junior race is for those aged from 9 to 14 and will feature separate girls’ and boys’ contests.

Both runs will take place in the Edinburgh City Centre and will take place after the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run.

The Mini course is 1.4km in length and Juniors will run 2.4km – both courses are suitable for wheelchairs.
